My Journey Starts Here!
So, I’ve been teetering on the brink of email marketing for the longest while, but something was holding me back. Today, I have decided that I am breaking through the fear of email marketing.
It started with the dreaded “What do I even write?”
I knew I was not alone in this. My coach tells us that for years he put off creating an email list because of these fears. ‘What to write’, to ‘What if I say the wrong thing?’ and a whole host of what-ifs, and these fears have been holding me back to feeling paralyzed. So how do I start to break through the fear of email marketing? I began to explore how others responded to those fears and the tips shared.
Fear Of The Blank Page
Of course, breaking through the fear of email marketing one fear is the fear of the blank page, but let’s face it, the idea of crafting that perfect email can be intimidating. What if I don’t sound interesting enough? What if no one reads it? These are the same fears I had when I first started blogging.
The good news is that others have been there and come out on the other side. Dean’s email marketing masterclass has been very helpful in overcoming my fears of just beginning.
Breakthroughs
What I think some of the breakthroughs were:
- Changing my niche from affiliate marketing to well-being. – Of course, everyone wants to be able to live financially comfortably but I also had in the back of my mind the realization that I know that alone does not bring happiness. There are too many stories to tell that tale. So I needed something bigger, I wanted to make a difference.
- I have experience in mental health and well-being, over fifteen years in community development working in communities as part of local government well-being teams, and in the National Health Trust (NHS) a mental health trust for five years but
- I wanted to tell a different story, particularly how in an increasingly volatile world, with the threat of global conflicts and climate crises, the increasing changes in weather patterns and people’s inability to intervene are the biggest dangers to well-being. This has helped me to become clear on what I want to talk about. I believe that feeling powerless and disconnected can impact our mental health and well-being. For example, I saw firsthand the impact on people’s well-being that substandard housing conditions and the lack of affordable housing caused. Since the pandemic, I have become increasingly aware of how the environment and social isolation impact us in myriad ways.
- Wellbeing is about how connected we all are and we saw the impact on our wellbeing when we were not able to be out and about with each other. We saw how a situation that happened in one part of the world impacts us where we are in another part of the world, in our homes, at work, and in our communities.
I am learning more about the incredibly powerful tools such as email marketing to connect with my audience and share valuable content. My mission is to help people understand and manage their mental health and well-being in these contexts and to ultimately create a well-being retreat both online and offline.
So far this has been an incredibly difficult journey and often I have wanted to give up. I am thankful that I am still learning and growing. I want to thank my readers and my coach who have helped me to keep moving forward.
Creating Content
So creating content sounds like the easy part, Dean says, ‘The simple way to do this is ‘to be aware of things happening in your day-to-day life and share those experiences.’
My Audience
Now that I am enjoying diving into the world of email marketing and having a better understanding of what I want to talk about, my next hurdle will be to work out who I am writing to and I am still working that out!
Luckily, I’m told not to worry about the who too much as I will get clarity as I do the work.
I will then need to tailor my content to meet the needs and interests of my audience. When I know what my audience cares about, the words will come naturally so says my coach and mentor.
Offering Solutions
Now that I am clearer on what I want to talk about and gaining clarity about who I am talking to, I will be able to offer solutions or strategies to help people regain a sense of control over their environment, mental health, and well-being.
This could include simple daily practices, mindset shifts, calls to community involvement, creating safe spaces, and community action.
Creating My Product
I am thinking of creating my free product, and although I have a few ideas and am working on them, I am thinking of asking my current subscribers what’s on their minds or what kind of content they’d find helpful.
So given our current challenging times including the past five years or so and likely to continue in the foreseeable future, what kind of content would be helpful to you dear reader?
Three suggestions/ ideas are:
I am working on an introduction to well-being guide that covers all aspects of well-being to show how it’s all connected.
I’ve almost completed a P.E.A.C.E. and Prosperity Well-being training course.
I am creating a journal to document your well-being journey.
Do any of these ideas resonate with you?
Please leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you!
Dream Big,
Be Fearless.
